Lesson Plan: Reaction Equations Chemistry • First Year of Secondary School
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to construct equations for chemical reactions and write them using words or chemical symbols.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe the general features of a chemical equation,
- identify the reactants and products in chemical equations,
- identify and understand the arrow notation used in different types of chemical equations,
- write a chemical reaction using words or chemical symbols for a described experiment,
- write a chemical reaction using chemical symbols and, where necessary, include state symbols,
- convert between word and symbolic equations.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- chemical formulas.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- chemical equations using structural formulas,
- how to balance equations.
